Seven Sounds of Love

The Seven Sounds of Love is a voice and movement practice I encountered through my training with The Naked Voice, with energy movements drawn from Shintaido.

The practice brings the notes of the scale together with different qualities of love and areas of embodied awareness. We move through the sounds from the crown of the head towards the ground, allowing each sound to be accompanied by its own gesture and intention.

This is not about singing beautifully or producing a particular pitch. The invitation is to experience each sound in the body and notice the quality of love it awakens.

The seven sounds

SA — Universal Love

Crown of the head

Reach upwards towards your highest aspiration or ideal.

NI — Mystical Love

Back of the head

Allow your awareness to open towards the mystery beyond what can be known or explained.

DHA — Compassionate Love

Third eye

Bring clarity and compassion together through the sword or diamond gesture.

PA — Inclusive Love

Throat

Open the voice and imagine its sound bringing light into the world.

MA — Intuitive Love

Heart

Offer from the heart, as though placing flowers before something you deeply honour.

GA — Instinctual Love

Solar plexus

Gather your energy and connect with the vital, instinctive life within you.

RE — Conditional Love

Pelvis

Notice the human longing for relationship, belonging and response. Allow light to spread through the movement.

SA — Unconditional Love

Source and ground

Return to stillness and spaciousness, resting in the love that asks for nothing in return.

Practising the sequence

You can explore one sound at a time or move slowly through the full sequence:

SA — NI — DHA — PA — MA — GA — RE — SA

Let each sound arise without force. The movements may be expansive or very small, depending on what feels supportive for your body.

After the final SA, pause in silence. Notice the breath, the body and any changes in your inner experience.
