Summer Solstice - gāyatrī mantra practice (online)

Honoring the Light within

On the eve of Summer Solstice, we gather over zoom to chant the gāyatrī mantra 108 times — a sacred practice to honor the light within.

Chanting the gāyatrī mantra 108 times just before the Summer Solstice is a deeply grounding spiritual practice that honours the sun at its moment of greatest strength.

As the longest day of the year, the solstice amplifies themes of light, clarity, and vitality. Repeating this ancient solar mantra in that window is seen as a way to attune oneself to the sun’s life-giving energy, bringing greater brightness and alignment to both mind and spirit.

One of the powerful words of the gāyatrī is dhimahi - which means 'we meditate' - an invitation to come together in community to meditate on the highest brilliance of the source of life.

The number 108 holds deep significance — symbolizing wholeness, cosmic harmony, and the sacred connection between the Earth, Sun, and Moon. Chanting together for 108 repetitions represents a complete cycle — a meditation in rhythm, breath, and light.
