Reconnecting through the sounds of the Irish language

We will explore the living spirit of the Irish language - it's sounds, rhythms and meanings - as a pathway to connect more deeply with ourselves and with the wisdom of our ancestors. Using simple Irish words and phrases (as well as English and other languages) we will listen, speak, sound and sing to feel how language carries memory, emotion, and belonging and allows us freedom to explore all that it has to offer. We will weave sounds and words to acknowledge our moving though the season of Samhain and towards the Solstice.

About Lorraine
Lorraine has had a "grá" (love) for singing and for the Irish language for as long as she can remember. With over thirty years experience in education, from primary school classrooms to colleges and universities, she has always enjoyed inspiring a love of the Irish language, as well as learning from the language and through the language.
Lorraine believes that within the words of our language lies the echoes of our ancestors - their deep connections to the land, the natural cycles of nature and the sacred sites that still shape our landscape today.
Through exploring the sounds, structures and etymology of the Irish language, Lorraine invites students and communities to rediscover the ancient wisdom woven into the language, wisdom that links language, nature and spirit. She also invites participants to consider and explore their own experience, connection and relationship to the language.
