Movement, Poetry, Blurt writing… creative self-inquiry

I have been blessed with many wonderful teachers. One of whom is the wonderful Kim Rosen, author of “Saved by a Poem”. In her workshops and trainings through the medium of the Poetry Mystery School she created and shared the concept of a Poetry Dive.

I have been offering Poetry Dives over the last number of years and I continue to do so as, in my personal experience, it is a creative, insightful and often an unexpected way to take a deep dive within yourself, to touch what is just tenderly waiting to be revealed, released or experienced. So at it’s core it’s a soul’s journey to self discovery and self inquiry using the gifts of music, poetry, blurt writing and intention (turning up!!).

So you may ask the question, do I need to love poetry? do I need to be a writer, a poet? dancer? and so on… the short answer is not at all! however, let me explain…

The Process

The Poetry Dive begins setting a sacred container for us to explore together, with support and a our own willingness to meet what’s waiting for us.

We then go into movement, dance, an invitation to move and shake up our bodies and lose ourselves in the music… waking up our cells, an invitation to shake our what we habitually hold onto, our habitual control of keeping a lid on our feelings, our longings, even our creativity…

From here we add in the alchemy of the spoken word and powerful music, poetry from some inspirational poets, poems which ask questions, provoke images and thoughts and invite you to dissolve into the flow.

“By God that man could handle a spade, just like his old man.”

from Digging by Seamus Heaney

“Let it be known: I did not fall from grace.
I leapt
to freedom.

from Autobiography of Eve by Ansel Elkins

As you simply receive the poems and music, a word or a phrase or a memory may strike a chord in you… awaking in you a feeling, memory, insight… wave after wave as the poetry and music continues.

Once that’s complete, you are invited to pick up your pen and write, without trying to make any sense, just let your pen move through the page, letting out what’s been awakened, without censor..

And through that process we begin to really see and feel ourselves and move through stuck feelings and emotions in the body and mind. Often surprising even ourselves with what we have put to paper. There is an optional invitation to share what you have written should you choose.

It’s a powerful, creative and often liberating process. I’d love to guide you through this process with me and a beautiful group of people open to live more alive and more fully… to open to the calling of our deep heart.

David Whyte captures this process beautifully in his poem.. The Journey.
